MAGSampler: Day Trip to the Museum of Fear and Wonder

This July we are offering two trips to the Museum of Fear and Wonder, located outside the small community of Bergen, AB. Gardens made from stone, sculptures in the human form, creatures, chess sets carved on death row, and all sorts of other wonderful artifacts; this will definitely be a unique experience! Available tour dates are Saturday, July 13, 2019 and Wednesday, July 24, 2019. Cost is $100/member per person or $120/regular per person. This might be your only opportunity to visit the Museum of Fear and Wonder, as it is only open through bookings that sell out the moment they are posted. This year we managed to snag two spots! There is a minimum of 12 registrants required per tour date to run, and a maximum of 16 registrants per tour. This excursion will be leaving the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery (MAG) at 9:30 AM and and returning at 4:30 PM. Please arrive at the MAG 15-30 minutes early to check in: our galleries will be open for you to visit while we wait for all registrants to arrive. We will be leaving the MAG at 9:30 AM sharp, so don't be late! Upon returning to Red Deer, there will be a short tour of the exhibition, Unfamiliar Selves by Jude Griebel and Tammy Salzl for those who wish to attend. Unfamiliar Selves is on display at the MAG from July 6 - September 29, 2019. Pre-registration is required; non-refundable. $100/spot for MAG Members & $120/spot for Non-Members - register below. Not a member? Become a member, and enjoy a year full of unique experiences in addition to your trip to the Museum of Fear and Wonder! Included in your registration for the Day Trip to the Museum of Fear and Wonder is transportation to and from the Museum of Fear and Wonder, a lunch from Pursuit Adventures, fees/donations, and an extra stop at the stone sculpture garden in Olds. It is recommended you bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and snacks, if desired. About the Museum of Fear and Wonder: The Museum of Fear and Wonder is a collaborative project by Brendan Griebel and Jude Griebel. It uses the dying tradition of the rural museum to highlight the psychological and narrative qualities of objects. The collection is comprised of emotionally complicated artifacts that speak directly to themes of human experience, identity and myth-making. It forms a greater story in its entirety, both educating and mystifying its audience. Situated in a renovated army barracks outside the small community of Bergen, Alberta, the Museum of Fear and Wonder can be visited on an appointment basis by the curious. In coming years, the museum will play host to guest academics and curators, allowing them the space and isolation to write and reflect on human relationships to the world of possessions.
