Step into the rhythm and bring stories to life with your moves! We're thrilled to invite Lindy Hop dancers to a unique one-day workshop hosted by Edmonton's Lindy Hop instructors Arta Seify and Paige Grant. 

Aside from performing Lindy Hop, Paige is a staff instructor at Sugar Swing, and loves teaching the dance – it brings her joy to see people learn to connect with the music and others, all while expressing themselves. After attending a Lindy Hop social dance in 2013, Arta fell in love with it instantly. He finds inspiration to dance from the endless supply of steps and rhythms to learn and perfect.

This engaging session is designed to enrich your dance experience by merging the joy of movement with the art of storytelling. Discover how to narrate tales through your steps, and embrace the opportunity to learn, share, and revel in the dynamic power of storytelling with your feet. Don't miss this chance to transform your dance into a captivating narrative. Join us and let's create unforgettable stories together on the dance floor!

Admission is free, and open to Lindy Hop dancers of all levels.

We may duck behind chairs and fake terminal illness to avoid conflict in real life, but when we’re creating it on the page, conflict is a storyteller’s best friend. And what’s a story without a good (bad) nemesis and a healthy dollop of chaos? Through discussion and writing exercises, we’ll dig into the energy these nasty but necessary elements add to every story, and the ways you can harness these forces of evil for your own nefarious writerly purposes.

Leslie Greentree is the author of four books – Not the Apocalypse I Was Hoping For, which was shortlisted for a High Plains Book Award, the award-winning short story collection A Minor Planet for You, and two poetry books: go-go dancing for Elvis, which was shortlisted for the 2004 Griffin Prize for Poetry, and guys named Bill. 

Leslie has won CBC literary competitions for short fiction and poetry, and the Sarah Selecky 2013 Little Bird short fiction competition. Leslie is also an occasional essayist and playwright. She is currently working on a novel. Formerly of Red Deer, she now lives in Edmonton.

Red Deer for Palestine is organizing an Art Gallery Fundraiser on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, from 2PM to 7PM at the Pioneer Lodge in Parkvale! Join us for significant art installations, including a variety of local art for sale (with at least half of proceeds donated to aid in Palestine), a sensory tent and rubble display, an interactive art booth, and a multipointed discussion with brief speeches from both Palestinian and Jewish perspectives. Light concessions will be sold. This Gallery aims to raise awareness in our community about the ongoing genocide, pressure local politicians, and directly support relief efforts in Palestine. All proceeds go to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East), a UN agency that supports the relief and human development of Palestinian refugees and is the main humanitarian provider in Gaza under Israeli bombardment. If you are interested in donating a piece of art or crafts (most mediums welcomed), please fill out our sign-up form below.
