Purpose
The Red Deer Community Events Calendar (the “Calendar”) is sponsored by The City of Red Deer (“The City”) as a free, public hub for sharing community events. These rules clarify which events are eligible for posting, how submissions are handled, and the legal terms that apply.

Eligible Events
To be approved for posting, events must meet all the following criteria:
1.1 Location
- Events must physically take place within Red Deer city limits.
- Exceptions may be made at The City’s discretion for events hosted by The City or providing clear benefit to Red Deer residents.
1.2 Public Access
- Events must be held at a physical location accessible to the public.
- Private, invitation-only, members-only, or online-only events are not eligible.
1.3 Community Relevance
- Events should contribute to social, cultural, recreational, educational, or civic life in Red Deer.
- Events primarily intended for internal audiences (e.g., staff-only or closed club meetings) are ineligible.
1.4 Legal and Safety Compliance
- All events must comply with federal, provincial, and municipal laws, bylaws, and regulations.
- Organizers must obtain all required permits, licenses, or approvals before the event.
Free vs. Paid Events
- Both free and paid events are permitted.
- All fees, registration costs, or ticket prices must be clearly stated.
- Listing on the Calendar does not guarantee attendance or imply endorsement by The City.
Ineligible Events
The following are not eligible:
3.1 Commercial or Promotional Content
- Events primarily promoting or selling products, services, or businesses.
- Fundraisers may be considered only if open to the public and primarily for community benefit, not commercial gain.
3.2 Political or Advocacy Events
- Events promoting or opposing political parties, candidates, elected officials, or ballot questions.
- Non-partisan educational events may be considered if balanced and informational.
3.3 Discriminatory or Harmful Content
- Events promoting hate, violence, or discrimination against any group (as defined by the Alberta Human Rights Act).
3.4 Adult or Inappropriate Content
- Explicit sexual content, graphic violence, or other material unsuitable for general audiences.
3.5 Misleading or Incomplete Submissions
- Events with inaccurate, misleading, or intentionally vague information.
- Missing required details (date, time, location, or organizer contact).
3.6 Ongoing or Registered Programs
- Multi-session classes or recurring programs are not eligible.
- Eligible exceptions include one-time experiences, open houses, try-it days, demos, single-day camps, or membership drives.
Submission Requirements
4.1 Organizer Identification
- Anonymous submissions are not permitted.
- Submitter information must include name, email, and phone number (not publicly displayed).
4.2 Accuracy and Currency
- Organizers are responsible for ensuring all information is accurate and up to date.
- Significant changes (date, time, location, cancellation) must be promptly communicated.
4.3 Links and External Content
- External links may be included but must directly relate to the event and comply with Calendar guidelines.
- The City is not responsible for external websites or their content. Exercise caution when accessing unfamiliar sites.
Review, Approval, and Removal
- All submissions are reviewed by City staff before posting.
- Approval is not guaranteed and does not imply endorsement by The City.
- The City may edit, restrict, or remove any event at its discretion if it violates guidelines or laws.
Terms of Use for Event Submitters
By submitting an event, you agree to the following:
1. Consent to Terms
- You accept the current Terms of Use and understand they may change without notice.
2. Collection, Use, and Disclosure of Personal Information
- Personal information is collected under the Municipal Government Act Section 3 and protected under FOIP.

3. Copyright and Indemnity
- You grant The City permission to reproduce any text or photos submitted.
- You confirm you have authority to grant this permission and that it does not infringe on third-party rights.
- You agree to indemnify The City against any claims arising from breaches of this representation.
4. Other Terms
- Do not alter information posted by others.
- Do not attempt to breach security or impersonate others.
- Do not upload unlawful or harmful content.
- The City is not liable for any loss, damage, or technical issues.
- All disputes are governed by Alberta law, with courts located in Alberta.
- The City may enforce or waive any Terms at its discretion.
Disclaimer
- Events are published as submitted and The City cannot guarantee accuracy, completeness, or currency.
- External links are not controlled or reviewed by The City. Use caution when visiting third-party websites.
- The City is not liable for damages arising from use of the Calendar or third-party content.
- The personal information collected through your Community Events Calendar submission form is for the purpose of advertising your community event. This collection is authorized by section 4(c) of the Protection of Privacy Act and section 3 of the Municipal Government Act.
