Pouf!

What happens when you mix hair spray, head lice, and a little dab of Elvis? Hairlarity.

Pouf! by Lou Clyde. Directed by Glorene Ellis

Comedy

The year is 1958 and Betty finds herself unfulfilled as a housewife. She and her husband have been unsuccessful in starting a family and her husband will not “permit” her to get a job. With the encouragement of her sister, Betty secretly sets up an in-home salon, leveraging her prowess with hair spray and bobby pins. Betty begins to change the lives of neighborhood women by “poufing” their hair. POUF! is an “uplifting” comedy with big hair and even bigger laughs.

The play runs from February 7 to 16, 2025, in the Studio Theatre upstairs at CAT Studios (Red Deer Memorial Centre).

SJHS Production of Big Fish the Musical

St. Joseph is holding our annual Musical Production February 27 - March 1!

We ARE NOW booking Tickets for all shows

General Info:
Performances are held at the Red Deer Memorial Centre with matinees on Thursday and Friday at 1pm, matinee on Saturday at 2pm, and all evening shows at 7pm.
Tickets are $20 per seat and can be purchased at https://www.studentquickpay.com/rdcrs/MyAccount/Main.aspx

Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, BIG FISH tells the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest…and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him—most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales. Overflowing with heart and humor, BIG FISH is an extraordinary musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre—for an experience that’s richer, funnier and bigger than life itself.

The show is rated PG as there is some language that is not appropriate for all ages. Nothing overtly violent or explicit in terms of content in this show. If you'd like more details about this, please reach out to sarah.macdonald@rdcrs.ca

Opal’s Million Dollar Duck

In CAT’s final show of the season, we visit a cluttered little store off the beaten track to the sleepy edge of town and an unexpected, far-from-quiet tussle over a fortune.

Opal’s Million Dollar Duck by John Patrick. Directed by Susan Dearing.

Farce

Searching for costumes for their next production, Desmond and Queenie, the “stars” of the local summer-stock company, drop by “Opal’s Antique Junque Shop.” While rooting through Opal’s treasures they spot a nondescript oil painting—a still life of a dead mallard duck and an apple—and recalling an item in the morning newspaper about an old master who has disappeared from the local art museum, suddenly realize that this may be the missing canvas, for which the insurance company is offering a sizable reward. Summoning up all their acting skills, they try to charm Opal into selling the painting for a pittance, but she explains that she plans to give it to her friend, Rosie, as a birthday present, whereupon the plot thickens hilariously. Desmond and Queenie resort to everything from outrageous flattery to knock-out drops trying to get their hands on the picture. Rosie, however, rejects it on the grounds that it reminds her of her pet duck (which was run over by a truck); and the plotters, much to their glee, march off triumphantly with their prize—unaware that a later edition of the paper carries a new item: The old master has been found, and the canvas that disappeared was a worthless copy that the museum had thrown out with the garbage!

The play runs from March 7 to 16, 2025, in the Studio Theatre upstairs at CAT Studios (Red Deer Memorial Centre).
