Green Wrapping Workshop

Green Gift Wrapping Workshop Saturday, November 23 From 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Join ReThink Red Deer , Kerry Wood Nature Centre and Living Lands for an afternoon of green gift wrapping. You will create your own gift wrapping and decorations using the upcycled materials provided. There will be Christmas treats and drinks for you to enjoy while you work! $15/person or $25/family. Drop-in.

MAGSaturday: Giacometti Sculptures

Do you know who Alberto Giacometti is? Bronze, figurative, sculpture, influential, Cubism and Surrealism; these are all words used to describe his work. We are taking inspiration from his figurative sculptures today, with the wild and wonderful legs, edges and textures. Come be inspired by Giacometti! Drop in family art making! MAGnificent Saturdays welcomes all ages and abilities to participate in a fun art project every week! Work with a local artist to get your project going or on your own with a set of customized instructions. We supply the artist, materials, the studio and the instructions - you supply the imagination! This is a wonderful opportunity for learning, creating and exploring new materials! -Cost: $5 per person/$10 for family (2 adults and all their children under 18 in same household) -Frequent participant? Felting Workshop

Wet Felting Mittens Sunday, November 24 From 10:00 to 4:00. With a lunch break Create a pair of light weight warm mittens using the resist method. The resist method creates a 3-D fabric without seams or sewing required. Materials include soft, warm fibers from bison, yak, llama and merino wool. $65+GST/adult or $65/youth. Ages 13+. Pre-registration required by Wednesday, November 20 at 4:30 p.m.

MAGSampler: Blotted Book Binding with Sally Towers-Sybblis

Create your own unique journal with local artist Sally Towers-Sybblis. Learn simple blotted painting techniques, calligraphy and a simple book bind in this fun, creative workshop! Paint a series of interesting papers using watercolor paints. Handcraft your painted papers into a unique little book with a simple book bind. Learn simple calligraphy to add to your book for reflective journaling or use it for creative doodling. No previous experience is required for this class. Workshop runs 5-8 pm on Sunday, November 24, 2019. Cost is $40/spot for valid MAG members, $50/spot non-members; non-refundable. For ages 15+. Her journey to become an artist began at Grant MacEwan University where she studied Fibre Arts and Visual Communications.

MiniMAG: Socks, Socks, and more Socks!

Does anyone else looovvve colourful socks? We hope so, because today we are making the most colourful socks our imaginations can handle! Program runs: Every Wednesday morning from 9:30 – 11 am. This program runs September to June every year. Cost: -$2/child for those with family or grandparent memberships -$3/child for those without a family or grandparent membership. It gives the youngest artists in our community a chance to come and create a new piece of art every week. All of our projects are geared towards kids under 5 and are easily adapted to the different skills and abilities of all kids. Today is a fun combination of painting, cutting, and weaving. Pick your subject and paint it twice. Then cut one in vertical pieces and the other horizontally and weave it all together.
