Family Connections – Skills for Supporting Loved Ones Struggling with Mental Illness

The Sashbear Foundation and Alberta Health Services are pleased to offer FAMILY CONNECTIONS™ a scientifically proven, skills-based program delivered over two full weekends in September and October. The program is based on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and is designed specifically for family members and friends of those struggling with emotional dysregulation (intense feelings of sadness, shame, anger, anxiety, impulsivity, mood swings and/or suicidal ideation). Delivered by trained peer facilitators who have “lived experience” using these skills in their own families, the program teaches practical coping and communication skills to help participants regain balance and manage emotional reactions to challenging situations more effectively. Sessions run 8:30am to 5:00pm on September 14th/15th and October 26th/27th 2019. Participants must attend all four days. To register for the program, or learn more about other upcoming program dates, please visit the event website: https://sashbear.wildapricot.org/AB-groups-Upcoming/. Once you indicate interest in a session, the Sashbear Foundation Team will ask you to confirm your ability to attend all sessions. Once you reply to that email, you will be registered in a class. For any further questions, contact the organization at: Phone: 1-888-523-0495 Email: fcprogram@sashbear.org Or, to contact the local organizer: Christa Stolte Phone: 403-302-7033 Email: stoltebc@gmail.com This event is free. Kick it to the Curb is back – with more ways to accommodate your busy summer schedule and beat bad weather! From May to October, residents are encouraged to set their unwanted items out with a FREE sign every third weekend of the month. Kick it to the Curb is a city-wide event to help Red Deerians reduce and reuse. Place your unwanted but usable items at the front of your property marked with a ‘FREE’ sign.
