April 2024Mountain Bluebird Workshop
Ellis Bird Farm's site manager Carolyn and biologist Natalia are excited to bring this workshop, where they'll discuss all things Mountain Bluebird! This workshop will feature information about bluebirds, how to start your own nestbox trail, maintaining a nestbox trail, monitoring nestboxes, and completing nest checks. If you've been wanting to start your own bluebird trail, then this is certainly the workshop for you. It will run Saturday, April 27 from 1-3pm and is only $10 per person.

May 2024AWES Berry Shrub Planting
On May 25, AWES will be on the Ellis Nature Centre site hosting a day full of planting fruit and food shrubs. We need your help to plant as many shrubs and bushes as possible so we can create & enhance habitat for the wildlife on our site.

May 2024Citizen Science Butterfly Count Training
Join Dr. Delano Lewis's Butterfly Species Count project at Ellis Nature Centre. Dr. Lewis from Burman University is reaching out to Central Albertans to assist in this Citizen Science project. The training session will help you learn how to identify butterflies and conduct the butterfly counts. Butterfly count volunteers will conduct 1 hour butterfly counts throughout the summer at ENC, adding essential data to this multi-year project. Training sessions are free and refreshments will be served.

June 2024Push & Pace Fundraising Walk and Run
Join us for family fun at Push & Pace, Aspire’s fundraising walk and run, on Saturday, June 1. Our 12th Annual event, presented by SurePath Group includes a 1, 3 & 5 km course, a free BBQ lunch, bouncy castle, music and face painting.
There are many ways to support us. Register online and participate, fundraise, give a pledge to a runner, or bring your family to Parkland School for a fun morning of activities.
All funds raised support children with diverse needs in Central Alberta.

June 2024Rotary Branches Out
Do you want to Branch Out with Rotary? Come join us at the fourth annual Rotary Branches Out! Tree Planting Day on Saturday, June 1 at McKenzie Trails at 10.00 am - 12.00 pm.
We are planting 16” saplings at McKenzie Trails, Red Deer (main parking lot). Bring your own spade, but if you don’t have one, the City has 100 spades for us to use. The City and Weyerhaeuser sForesters will give an ecotalk on how to plant them at 10.00 am. The Red Deer City Urban Forester will let us know where to plant and have the area staked out.
Everyone is Welcome! - youth groups, families, students and youth needing volunteer hours.
Pizza and pop are available at noon for all youth.

The flowers and plants on hand will be selected with the purpose of attracting hummingbirds and other pollinators to your yard. The knowledgeable folks from Parkland Garden Centre will also be on hand to help with planter design. The $80 fee allows each participant to make one planter to take home with them. Pick between two times - 11am or 1pm. There are only 20 spots available in each time block and this workshop always fills fast, so don't wait to register!

You are paired with a horse that is yours for the whole camp. Learn to brush, saddle, bridle and general horse care while having fun.
Our focus is safety first.
Cool things we are doing are barrel racing, trail rides, games on horses and gentle horsemanship. Learn to connect with our equine partners and create lasting friendships. Off horse activities include float trips down the river, hikes, exploring nature, playing in the waterfalls and seeing wild horses.
Ages : 8 to 16 years old.
