May 2026Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery (MAG) Annual General Meeting 2026
You’re Invited!
The Red Deer & District Museum Society’s 54th Annual General Meeting is on May 28, 2026, starting at 7PM at the MAG.
Before the meeting begins, we’re hosting an Open Doors session, where our members are welcome to check out what goes on behind all the doors at the MAG. Open Doors will run from 4:30–6:45pm. This is your chance to explore behind the scenes and see some of the fascinating objects (and people!) that help tell Red Deer’s story.
This is a great opportunity to meet our Board of Directors, catch up with other members, and help us celebrate the happenings of the past year with a slice of cake. All members in good standing as of March 29, 2026, are eligible to vote at the Annual General Meeting. Voting privileges aside, this a public meeting, everyone is welcome to attend.
If you’re unsure about your membership status, please give us a call at 587-797-4040 or stop by the MAG to check and renew your membership.

June 2026Making Art History: Faith Ringgold
Making Art History is a 2-part micro-art and history class. The first class starts with a brief lesson on art movements or artists in history (as well as contemporary artists). The second class will occur the following week, and we’ll focus on completing our projects while enjoying a lively discussion about the themes and techniques we’ve been exploring!
This month’s Making Art History presents Artist and Activist – Faith Ringgold
Faith Ringgold was a multi-media artist and activist for equality. A significant cultural figure, Ringgold produced a stunning body of work as a painter and sculptor in the earlier years of her art career. She is perhaps as equally known for her narrative quilts. These complex pieces tell stories of community and of place and time. We’ll be exploring the incredible work of this remarkable woman and creating tempera tribute portraits in her style!
Classes run June 3 & 10 from 6-8 pm. Registration covers both classes. All supplies included.

June 2026Film Screening of Rita Leistner’s Forest For The Trees
You can't plant a tree without believing in the future. Free film screening at the MAG of Forest For The Trees by Rita Leistner! 🎞️
Produced in complement with The Tree Planters exhibition and the book Forest for the Trees – The Tree Planters, this visually and artistically unique documentary explores the physical and emotional aspects of a community of West Coast tree planters. Deftly weaving together still photos and film footage, Rita Leistner, an award-winning photographer, photojournalist, filmmaker and erstwhile tree planter, depicts the contradictions in the experiences of the tree planters—the hardship and the healing; the solitude and the joy of belonging—creating an eloquent cinematic metaphor for the human condition.
Join us at the MAG on June 6 at 12:30pm! Free to attend, and everyone welcome. Stay after for the artist's talk and tour on the same day (June 6) starting at 2pm!
